ATT wins Skills and Training Award at the Humber Renewables Awards 2026

Active Training Team is proud to be recognised at the Humber Renewables Awards 2026, winning the Skills and Training Award for Thrive.

The award recognises organisations that have done the most to create or develop a much-needed skills base in the region. For ATT, this recognition is particularly meaningful because Thrive was created to meet a real workforce challenge on the Humber: helping people working across renewables, ports and maritime environments to build the confidence, communication skills and shared safety behaviours needed to work safely under pressure.

Recognising innovation in skills and training

Finalists included major regional and industry names such as RWE, Siemens Gamesa, Hull College, Maersk Training Humber, Ørsted and Horizon Youth Zone Grimsby, Drax Power Station, DN Colleges Group and the Offshore Training Centre, Grimsby.

The award was proudly received on behalf of ATT by Sam Cottingham, Head of Marketing, and Andrew Basham, Commercial Director, who attended the ceremony and celebrated the win with businesses and organisations shaping the Humber’s renewable energy future.

Andrew Basham, Commercial Director at Active Training Team said: “Winning the Skills and Training Award is a proud moment for everyone at Active Training Team. Thrive was created to support the Humber’s renewables workforce with the confidence, communication skills and safety leadership behaviours needed in complex, high-risk environments.

To see that work recognised alongside such strong regional and industry talent is incredibly meaningful. This award reflects the strength of our partnership with Ørsted, the commitment of our delivery team, and the thousands of participants who have helped make Thrive such a lasting part of the Humber’s safety leadership landscape.”

The Thrive safety leadership programme

Thrive is delivered at the Humberside Safety Leadership Centre, a purpose-built immersive training facility in Immingham. Originally commissioned by Ørsted for their Hornsea offshore windfarm projects, the centre was designed to build shared safety leadership behaviours across a diverse, contractor-heavy workforce.

Unlike traditional classroom-based training, Thrive combines immersive storytelling with practical safety leadership skills. Participants move through a realistic, multi-set immersive theatre environment where everyday decisions, production pressure, miscommunication and missed opportunities to challenge unsafe behaviour build towards serious consequences. The experience is then followed by practical workshops designed to give people the skills and confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours.

Since opening in September 2020, Thrive has trained more than 8,200 people, including Ørsted employees and contractors, as well as organisations across renewables, ports and maritime. Reported post-programme outcomes include 94% of participants seeing themselves as safety leaders and 95% feeling more confident to challenge unsafe behaviour.

The wider impact of Thrive has also been felt beyond the training room.  ATT recruited and trained a local delivery team of actors, facilitators, technicians and operational support, generating more than 60 jobs and contracts in the region.

The Humber Renewables Awards win recognises not only Thrive’s training impact, but also its contribution to the region’s long-term skills base. The Humber Safety Leadership Centre was created as a lasting regional asset, supporting the offshore wind supply chain and related ports and maritime operations. Thrive has since been adopted by organisations including Siemens Gamesa, Siemens Energy, SSE, Equinor, Ocean Winds, RWE, Scottish Power Renewables, Associated British Ports and DP World.

Thank you to our clients, partners and team

As the region continues to grow as one of the UK’s most important renewable energy and ports hubs, ATT is proud that Thrive is playing a part in strengthening the skills, behaviours and safety leadership capability needed for the future.
