Thrive marks five years of impact

Active Training Team celebrates five years of partnership with Ørsted at the Thrive Safety Leadership Centre.
Active Training Team (ATT) is proud to mark five years of partnership with Ørsted and five years of delivery at the Thrive Safety Leadership Centre on the Humber. The milestone reflects trust, collaboration and a shared commitment to raising the bar for safety leadership across wind-power operations.
What began in 2020 as a bold investment in immersive behavioural training has grown into a nationally recognised, award-winning programme that now serves not only Ørsted teams and contractors, but the wider renewables, port and maritime sectors.
A partnership built on trust and long-term collaboration
Designed and delivered by ATT in close partnership with Ørsted, Thrive was created to give everyone working on the Hornsea offshore wind projects a shared, practical understanding of what safe work looks like in high-risk construction and cargo-handling environments.
Since opening, more than 8,200 participants have now completed the Thrive programme with the results continuing to prove positive impact:
- 96.9% rate the experience positively
- 94% say they now see themselves as a safety leader
- 96% will apply what they learned back on site
- 95% feel more confident challenging unsafe behaviour
The centre was originally built through Ørsted’s £1.4m investment, with ATT leading the creative, technical and operational development. The project also delivered regional value, creating over 60 local jobs and contracts – including actors, facilitators, technicians and operational staff – to support daily delivery.
A recognised industry benchmark
Over the past five years, Thrive has received major cross-industry recognition, including:
- Renewables UK Global Offshore Game Changer Award (2023)
- Humber Renewables Award for Excellence in Renewable Skills & Training (2022)
- Energy Institute Health & Safety Award (2021)
- Gold Award for Best Training Event – EVCOM London Live & Film (2021)
These awards reflect both the depth of ATT’s immersive methodology and the strength of the partnership with Ørsted.
Beyond Ørsted: a resource for the entire sector
While built to support the construction of Orsted’s Hornsea 2 project, Thrive has since supported Ørsted’s offshore wind operations worldwide. It has also been adapted to support onshore civils construction phases of wind-farm development. Organisations that have used the centre to date include:
Siemens Gamesa, Siemens Energy, SSE, Equinor, Ocean Winds, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, Associated British Ports and DP World.
The centre remains open to new clients seeking a powerful, proven behavioural-safety programme. Sectors include: renewables, maritime operations, transport, civil engineering, and other high-hazard industries.
A programme shaped by its industry impact
Benj Sykes, Head of UK Region at Ørsted, comments:
“Thrive has helped embed our safety‑first culture across Ørsted and the wider Humber business community. The immersive experience brings the consequences of decisions into sharp focus and drives the behavioural change that keeps people safe.
We’re proud of what our partnership with Active Training Team has achieved – from the Hornsea 2 legacy to continued support through Hornsea 3 – and we look forward to seeing more organisations at Thrive as we continue raising the bar for safety leadership across the UK.”
