Spotlight on… Ivor Tillier

Ivor Tillier has a varied background in design and digital development, starting with a degree in Furniture Design. He moved into digital and holds an MSc in Software Development. Now a Senior Product Manager at ATT, Ivor is focused on enhancing behavioural learning through a new version of ATT’s digital product. Meet Ivor!

Can you share a little bit about your background and what brought you to the company?
I’ve always been interested in how we interact with the physical world around us. I have a degree in Furniture Design that honed my understanding of meeting the needs of the user. From there I saw how easy it was to write HTML and jumped at the opportunity to become the webmaster for a university (the job title is a hint at how long ago that was!). I followed this with an MSc in Software Development before evolving to become a product manager via various digital roles from web producer to user experience architect and innovation manager.

Why ATT? It’s a no-brainer. We all want to do something meaningful. Nurturing positive behaviours and psychological safety really ticks the box.

What’s your job at ATT?
Senior product manager.

Can you tell us about a specific project you’re currently working on and what goal it aims to achieve?
We’re building a new version of our digital product. This complements our immersive training so that the knowledge and skills introduced are consolidated and become habitual. This has been informed by many hours of participant and client interviews.

Are there any emerging trends you find particularly exciting or relevant to your work?
I bet you thought I’d say AI! Sure, it is exciting, we’re exploring how it might help us to deliver clients’ required outcomes. However, being a product manager isn’t just about shipping features; it’s ultimately delivering business impact. So, wearing my strategic hat, I would say Product-Led Growth. I want our digital product to drive growth for ATT and nurture that growth through continuous product improvement. It’s a win-win: we deliver an experience that is engaging and meaningful, and our clients and participants receive value through positive behavioural change.

What is your favourite project you’ve worked on in your career?
I loved working in academic publishing at Wiley; you knew you were building products that supported those who were often at the forefront of scientific discovery. However, I would say my current work at ATT, because positive behaviour change is so fundamentally impactful.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure or influential person, who would it be and why?
I think it would be my grandmother, Susan Cowdy. She was a trailblazer in nature conservation with a huge network and a thirst for knowledge. She just missed out on the internet with her untimely death in 1996. I think it would have put her impact on steroids, I would love to know what she would have made of it.

What is one fun fact about yourself that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
I’d love to say that I have a 2000+ rating on chess.com but no chance of that so I’ll settle for when, back in the day, I hitch-hiked across Canada, Australia, Europe and Malaysia.
