Best practice COVID-19 measures mean immersive training continues

Everyone has to comply with Government guidelines on COVID-19, but the measures cannot be a reason to stop effective immersive training. The Energy Networks Association recently reported a 20% increase in cable strikes after lockdown compared with the same time last year. The increase in such incidents highlights the urgent need to continue to deliver effective safety leadership training.

ATT Co-Director Adam Christopher explains: ‘Following a risk assessment, we implemented a range of COVID-19 measures at our Thrive Safety Leadership Centre on the Humber to ensure the programme could be delivered safely.’ Chris Reed, Health and Safety Advisor, East Coast Hub, who experienced Thrive with the measures in place, comments: ‘From a Covid perspective the restrictions are managed very well and very clearly. The staff are incredibly organised, there are spots around to stand on and keep a safe social distance. The welfare facilities and refreshment areas are incredibly well-managed and it gives you confidence as well knowing that the staff are all regularly tested. The level of Covid control in my opinion was very high.’

Featuring a hard-hitting, multi-media scenario which examines the build up to a fatal incident on a load-out operation and its consequences, Thrive is being used by Ørsted to induct all personnel working on the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm project, and is suitable for use in renewables, ports and a range of sectors. Adam Christopher concludes: ‘We’re not only getting fantastic feedback from participants about the impact of Thrive, but also about how safe people feel in relation to Covid at the Centre. We recognise that people want reassurance around this important subject so we ensure that all organisations and participants booking onto Thrive are given comprehensive and up to date details of the current COVID-19 measures in place.’
