EPIC: Logistics - a new course for HGV drivers

After almost a year in development with our partner Tideway, we are very proud to announce that EPIC Logistics – a brand new version of our award-winning site-specific induction experience – is now live.

EPIC Logistics is an induction day for all HGV drivers and logistics professionals currently working on the Tideway multi-billion pound infrastructure project. EPIC: Logistics has the added benefit of being approved as a ‘Driver Certificate of Professional Competence’
(D CPC) accredited course by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training. The accreditation will benefit drivers by forming part of their continuous professional development.

The day explores the behavioural and cultural factors which contribute to the death of a vulnerable road user on a London street. It provides technical ‘driver professionalism’ workshops with practical techniques to increase participants’ confidence when tackling unsafe behaviour.

The launch follows intensive pilots with staff and key stakeholders including the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, Road Haulage Association, Chartered Institute of Logistics, Transport and the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme and the London Mayor’s office.

Early feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive:

For me personally, it was a great experience being involved with so many HGV drivers, and understanding their challenges and perceptions on work-related road safety. EPIC is a really phenomenal training method – I have really high hopes that it helps towards reducing injuries and collisions onsite.

EPIC: Logistics will run one day a week, alongside the current EPIC. Following the technical upgrade of the induction centre last year, we are now able to run concurrent courses for distinct sections of the project’s workforce. Running a logistics-specific version alongside the general workforce version, we maximise the use of the EPIC centre and its technology – achieving the sustainability that Tideway demands from the project. It also provides a fantastic opportunity for us to recruit additional actors, facilitators, specialists and crew.
