HGV Driver Training Workshop

We are very pleased to announce that we are currently designing and developing a dedicated workshop for HGV drivers. The new driver training programme will address the risks and behaviours associated with driving HGVs on the public highways on project-related business, such as delivering and collecting plant, materials and equipment to and from worksites.

The aim is for this workshop to be a ‘Driver Certificate of Professional Competence’ (D CPC) accredited course, which will benefit the drivers and form part of their continuous professional development. Active Training Team, in collaboration with our expert colleagues, are working hard to create the optimum blend of behavioural, procedural and regulatory content for the workshop to gain accreditation by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training.

The project is being overseen by industry experts including Michael J Heduan MBE, honoured for his road safety work on the Crossrail project, which has included training over 10,500 lorry drivers to safely share London’s roads with cyclists and vulnerable road users. Michael has been supporting us to create an authentic storyline and secure key stakeholders and experts for the development and implementation phase of this project. We are also fortunate to have Glen Davies, former TfL Freight Programme Manager, assisting us on procedural and technical aspects of the course to secure D CPC course accreditation.

Using our extensive network within the entertainment and creative industries we are able to bring four leading creative organisations to the project: TVC Soho, White Light, d3 Technologies and sound designer Steve Hellier. As with all our work, the quality and authenticity of the filmed drama is paramount to the immersive experience and impact of the day, and therefore it is essential that this blends seamlessly into all ‘live’ aspects of the day. This collaboration, working alongside our Director of Photography, will result in the design and build of a unique multi-camera rig that will capture the 360-degree footage required for the venue hosting the training.

All our post-production editing will be done at TVC Soho with White Light and d3 assisting on the technical concept design, installation and playback of the filmed pieces. With award winning sound designer and artist, Steve Hellier creating the bespoke audio design and accompanying soundtrack, we hope the next five months will result in a new driver training programme that will build on the success of our other projects, and continue to meet our transformational health and safety objectives.
